After a strong 2012 racing season, 2Wild Karting opened their 2013 karting campaign with some solid results at the opening round of the Los Angeles Karting Championship (LAKC) two weekends ago. Taking place at CalSpeed Karting on the grounds of the famed Auto Club Speedway, 2Wild Karting would walk away with three victories, five podium finishes and six top five results.
"It was a great way to start the season," explained 2Wild Karting's Ryon Beachner. "With new and returning drivers to the team as well as some veteran and rookie pilots, the entire squad improved throughout the weekend and when the final checkered flag had flown, our team was leading the LAKC Team Championship."
Leading the way and sweeping their respective categories of competition, the father and son duo of Billy and Willy Musgrave topped the blocks throughout the day in the S2 and S4 divisions. Never putting a wheel wrong around the tricky CalSpeed facility, both of the Musgraves managed to take their class pole positions, heat race wins and main event victories. Showing their true speed and dominance in the gearbox classes, both pilots are working hard for a very successful and winning racing season.
Carlee Taylor would follow in the Musgraves' footsteps by claiming the first position in all three official on track sessions for TaG Senior. Scoring a commanding pole position and prefinal victory, Taylor would add another win to the 2Wild Karting resume by taking the checkers in the day's final. Fellow TaG Senior pilot Jon Gih would impress in his karting debut. In only his first race, Gih would challenge at the front of the field all day long showing constant improvement in racecraft and lap times. Qualifying fourth and finishing the day in the fifth position, Gih will be a threat for race wins and podium results as the 2013 season continues on.
S4 pilot Troy Butts would join his fellow 2Wild Karting pilot on the podium scoring a third place finish. After qualifying outside row two with the fourth quickest time in his qualifying session, Butts improved to P3 in his heat race before holding station in the main event to come home third and start his LAKC championship chase off on the right foot.
Sal Menudiado would be the lone 2Wild Karting entrant in the S4 Magnum class and would add a second place trophy to his collection. After qualifying third and claiming the third position in the day's prefinal, Menudiado would turn up the wick in the main event and cross the line in the second position.
A pair of TaG Cadet pilots would show constant improvement throughout the weekend as both turned poor qualifying efforts into solid top ten results. Mia Butts would qualifying in the 13th position but by the time the day had ended, the young pilot would move forward to finish seventh. Showing similar progression, Colin Queen turned his 16th place prefinal finish into a sixth place effort in the day's main event.
PRD Senior driver Eric Molinatti would run inside the top ten throughout the day. Turning his ninth place qualifying effort into a sixth place finish in the heat race, the talented pilot would falter slightly in the main event due to a flat tire to come home eighth.
Donal Loughrey would be the sole 2Wild Karting pilot in the PRD Grand Masters division and would look to challenge for a top five result. Finishing fifth in the prefinal, it looked as if Loughrey would be well on his way to an impressive result before disaster would strike in the main event. When the dust had finally settled, Loughrey would cross the stripe in 15th and he will now look towards the next event to rebound and get back on track.
Beachner continued, "2Wild Karting plans on supporting all LAKC events.
