After testing in the open wheel formula car ranks late in 2014, New Braunfels, Texas driver Parker Chase is set to start his move up the motorsports ladder. Inking a deal this week with Jay Howard and his Motorsports Driver Development program and Chastain Motorsports, Chase will see action in the F1600 Formula F Championship Series as well as national level karting throughout North America in 2015.

With their focus on driver development and winning, another young and promising competitor has made the switch to Team Koene USA for the Florida Winter Tour (FWT). Georgia’s Ryan Rackley has inked a deal with the Indiana based Team Koene USA and will compete in the Vortex Mini ROK class at the upcoming 2015 Florida Winter Tour. Also, returning to Team Koene USA for his third consecutive season will be Canadian driver Roman DeAngelis, as he will see action in both ROK Junior and Rotax Junior and Elliot Finlayson who will contest in Rotax Senior at the upcoming winter series.

What a difference a year makes; a statement exemplified by Jak Crawford’s podium finish last weekend at the 18th annual 2014 SKUSA SuperNationals in Las Vegas. Last year, at the same event the then eight-year-old driver finished a mere four spots from the end of the pack in 82nd place. The loss was chalked up to combination of bad luck, crashes and slippery conditions. That year, the young Texan driver didn’t even qualify for the LCQ event and instead spent Super Sunday visiting the Hoover Dam.

P1 Engines were the equipment to have this past weekend at the Streets of Lancaster Grand Prix in Lancaster, California. Drivers who had a P1 engine powering their chassis definitely had a leg up in Superkarts! USA’s (SKUSA) sixth round of the ProKart Challenge on the challenging street track. These drivers not only had great finishes, but the weekend also turned over championships in TaG Senior as well as TaG Junior, for Austin Elliott and Christian Brooks, respectively.

Taking on the demands of the one-mile New Castle Motorsports Park (NCMP) this past weekend, Dylan Tavella would leave victorious and with a cool $2500 in his pocket. Running support classes during the RoboPong 200 endurance race event, which saw multiple Verizon IndyCar Series drivers entered, the young Tavella would contest both the Yamaha Sportsman class, and try his hand in the Yamaha Junior category as well.  Earning the victory in Sportsman, Tavella edged out more than 40 competitors to take a big payday, and showed promise in his junior debut as well.

Michael Benyahia recently returned home from several weeks spent racing in Europe. The young American driver participated in CIK-FIA’s Academy Trophy competition at tracks throughout the region including Genk, Belgium; Sarno, Italy; Sienna, Italy; and Wackersdorf, Germany. While Benyahia did not achieve any podium finishes throughout his time in Europe, the experience made the trip worth his valuable time. In Europe, Michael learned the ins and outs of the very different European racing style, and how to decipher the many technical courses that Europe has to offer.

As had been the case at the Rotax Summer Shootout, ‘Jetpak’ Jak Crawford’s National Championship campaign started with utter domination.  This time at Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele, Utah, however, it ended in being run-off the track in a desert dust-up on Championship Sunday.  As has been the case all season long in his debut Micro Max year, Jak has had to contend with diversity and fight his way forward.  After winning pole on Friday by over half a second and crossing the line first for all three heat races, Jak’s weekend started to go the wrong way.

After suffering a devastating loss during the Superkarts! USA (SKUSA) SpringNationals in early May at the Dallas Karting Complex (DKC), CRG West has been hard at work rebuilding their premier Western Canadian operation. With an electrical fire sparking a large fire within the team’s stacker trailer, the damage was significant enough to declare the trailer a total loss.  Also losing their tent, equipment, inventory and personal items within the trailer, CRG West has vowed to rebuild, and plans are already underway as the team continues to support their loyal customers and continues to attend events on their 2014 calendar.

An idea turned to conception this past week as promoters for the first ever United States Rally Kart Association (USRKA) US Open of Dirt are pleased to announce their premiere event. Taking place at the US 41 Speedway in Lakeville, Indiana on September 13th, five asphalt division classes will take to the dirt road course in the hopes of becoming champions in the first ever US Open.

After several years running a successful series as the Northern Ontario Karting Championship (NOKC), series officials have reorganized as the Canadian Karting Challenge. Concentrating on TaG and CIK classes for 2014, the series will no longer be a Rotax qualifier and will instead offer a wide array of 2-cycle and 4-cycle classes. Eight-year-old Jak Crawford, from The Woodlands, Texas, has begun his Rotax career on a torrid pace. Starting in the Rotax Micro Max program in late October of 2013, Crawford managed to turn four months of development into a pair of feature wins this past weekend at the opening rounds of the Rotax Challenge of the Americas. Taking place at the fast and technical Musselmann Kart Circuit in Tucson, Arizona, Crawford was the class of the field and is the current point leader heading into rounds three and four of the series.
