On a cold and windy weekend in eastern Indiana, hundreds of spectators, karters and professional motorsports stars descended on the New Castle Motorsports Park facility for the annual Robopong 200. With the Dan Wheldon Pro-Am event on Saturday, several of today’s top motorsports stars were in attendance to help raise money for the Alzheimer’s Association charity, a charity that was close to the late Dan Wheldon’s heart. While fun times were had off the track, it was all business for the future of the sport as several thousands of dollars were on the line in the ultra-competitive Yamaha support classes before the four hour/200-mile endurance event and Top Kart USA drivers could be seen at the front of the field in every division.

Taking on the most anticipated Rotax event on the US karting calendar, Team PSL Karting would head to the GoPro Motorplex in Mooresville, North Carolina this past week for the 2013 Rotax Max Challenge United States Grand Nationals. With national titles and Rotax Max Challenge Grand Finals (RMCGF) invites on the line, Team PSL Karting pilots would need to bring their A-game as they competed against the top Rotaxians in the US. Fielding a team of six drivers in three classes, the world’s #1 CRG distributor would join forces with PSL Atlantic, as Canadian team drivers were racing north of the border as well. Splitting up staff mechanics and bringing in factory technicians, the PSL/CRG package would again be on top as Alan Rudolph claimed back-to-back DD2 Masters titles. Rene Martinelli would make it two PSL drivers on the DD2 Masters podium, while two team members also scored top-ten results in the ultra-competitive Mini Max ranks.

After announcing their prize structure for the 2013 Northern Ontario Karting Championship (NOKC) back in January, series officials have added an additional prize offering to their lucrative prize structure.

In addition to offering race day cash prizes of $1000 split between the first, second and third place finishers for all classes provided the class reaches a ten entry minimum, the NOKC will also award an extra $5000 championship purse per class if the 2013 series entrant list tops 120 competitors. This $5000 will be divided between the first through tenth place finishers in the championship standings, with $2000 awarded to first place, $1000 to second, $750 to third, $500 to fourth, $250 to fifth and $100 to the sixth through tenth place finishers.

TWELVE WINS AND SEVENTEEN PODIUMS FOR OCALA GRAN PRIX IN FKCS OPENER

Continuing their assault on the 2013 season, Florida karting powerhouse Ocala Gran Prix (OGP) would take on the season opener of the Florida Karting Championship Series (FKCS) this past weekend in Orlando, Florida. Heading to the Orlando Karting Center with a host of team drivers, OGP would claim twelve wins and seventeen podiums to start off their regional racing action. With the addition of the shifter kart classes, a campaign championed by OGP, the paddock was abuzz with gearbox racing and OGP drivers were able to dominate the new addition to the FKCS program.

After struggling to score the results desired during the opening weekend of the Formula Kart Productions Florida Winter Tour (FWT) at the Palm Beach International Raceway (PBIR), Rotax Micro Max pilot Derek Carmenate rebounded in rounds three and four to score a pair of podium results. Descending on the Homestead-Miami Speedway in the southern tip of Florida, Carmenate would steer his AM Engines powered Tony Kart towards the front of the field and battle hard for his chance to stand atop the podium.

Under unseasonably cold weather and blustery winds, the 2013 Florida Karting Championship Series (FKCS) kicked off this past weekend at the challenging Orlando Kart Center facility in Central Florida with a record number of entries. With the addition of the Rok Cup USA program and a larger entry count in the shifter kart divisions, wheel-to-wheel action was at its finest in the tricky conditions. With the removal of some classes that had less than poor entry levels and the addition of others, field sizes grew and now the series will look to continue the momentum through out the remainder of the season.

PSL Atlantic, along with two of the most revered American karters, are set to contest for championship titles during the upcoming Rotax Challenge of the Americas (COA) event. Alan Rudolph and Fritz Leesmann will enter this weekend’s COA finale leading the points in their respective classes and will look to wrap up championship titles and also secure the corresponding Rotax Max Challenge Grand Finals (RMCGF) invitations. Taking to the CalSpeed Karting circuit in Fontana, California, located outside the Auto Club Speedway, both PSL Atlantic pilots are certain to be on their games battling for more pole positions, race wins and the ultimate prize.

After claiming three top-five finishes to date in the 2013 Formula Kart Productions Florida Winter Tour (FWT), Devlin DeFrancesco would make a quick turnaround from the Homestead events to travel to Europe for the first round of the WSK Euro Series. Taking on the highly competitive KFJ class, DeFrancesco made his second start in WSK action at the International Circuit La Conca in Muro Leccese, Italy. Though a rookie in the series, the DFR pilot managed to compete in the prestigious Super Pole for the class and score some solid heat race results.

Continuing his first full season competing in the ultra-competitive European karting ranks, Canadian sensation Parker Thompson claimed his second top-five finish in only his second Euro event. Teaming with the Energy Corse factory team, Thompson would return to the La Conca International Circuit, located in the southern Italian city of Muro Leccese for the opening round of the WSK Euro Series. Having earned a podium position at the same facility during his European debut in February, the rising talent continued to be on his game in the challenging KFJ division.

Proving time and time again he is hard to beat, young gun Anthony Gangi Jr. made it four-for-four during his trip to the Homestead Karting Complex for the second stop of the 2013 Formula Kart Productions Florida Winter Tour (FWT). After earning both final victories the weekend prior during in the Vortex TaG Cadet class, Gangi Jr. added two more during the ultra-competitive Rotax event in the Mini Max category. Making that an incredible seven wins out of eight races in 2013 FWT action, the 2012 US Rotax Grand National Mini Max champion continues to prove his prowess in the cadet karting ranks. With three feature wins to his credit in the FWT Rotax events, and all four in TaG Cadet, the Brookville, New York resident will look to add more championship titles to his already impressive resume during the series finale in March.

A new karting year brings another new development for the Ocala Gran Prix operation, as the race team squad will look to start a new campaign in gearbox racing. Commencing at the opening round of the 2013 Florida Karting Championship Series (FKCS), multiple OGP drivers will be banging gears in the Spec Honda S5 Junior Shifter and Senior Stock Moto categories. Canadian OTK importer Pserra Racing was on hand at the recent Formula Kart Productions Florida Winter Tour (FWT) to start off their 2013 racing campaign. Two team drivers would utilize the potent Tony Kart chassis and Pserra power, as young guns Antonio Serravalle and new team recruit Jack Doohan ran in the youngest of the Rotax divisions. After earning double victories during the Formula Kart weekend of the 2013 Formula Kart Productions Florida Winter Tour (FWT), karting hot shoe Anthony Gangi Jr. claimed yet another win this past weekend. Again taking on the revamped Palm Beach International Raceway (PBIR) in Jupiter, Florida, Gangi Jr. would this time be on track for the Rotax Max Challenge weekend. Competing against 43 drivers in a competitive Rotax Mini Max class, the GT7 Motorsports pilot would switch from his Votex TaG Cadet machine to the Rotax powerplant for the week’s events. Taking on top talent from around the world, as the FWT continually draws entries from upwards of 28 countries, Gangi Jr. would endure rain soaked conditions for Saturday’s wheel-to-wheel action, but rise to the occasion on Sunday to turn his efforts around.

After becoming the Canadian OTK importer back in July, Pserra Racing is beginning to make strides with their new equipment line. Importing and carrying the entire OTK product line, including Tony Kart, Alonso, Kosmic, Vortex and the Viper rental arrive and drive karts, Pserra Racing will be seeking new Canadian dealers in 2013.

“We are working to improve the distribution of all these products across Canada,” explains Pserra Racing principal Peter Serravalle. “By doing so, we plan to set up more dealers to allow customers to purchase parts and chassis local to them. Additionally, we will promote our dealers with new products and up-to-date chassis tuning through us and the factory in Italy.”

With the 2013 karting season now in full swing, karting powerhouse Team PSL Karting was back in action at the opening rounds of the popular and ultra-competitive Florida Winter Tour (FWT) this past weekend at the Palm Beach International Raceway (PBIR). A talented squad of 16 drivers across all seven Rotax classes kept the team tent abuzz, as did the unpredictable weather conditions of the West Palm Beach area. The potent PSL/CRG combination is never one to rule out, and several Team PSL Karting drivers rose to the occasion during the Rotax opener.

Traveling to Tucson, Arizona for the opening round of the Rotax Challenge of the Americas, 2012 Team USA member and Florida Winter Tour Rotax DD2 Masters Champion Alan Rudolph would start his 2013 campaign off in fine form. The cold, rainy weather during the 2012 World Karting Association (WKA) KartWeek in Daytona Beach, Fla. on Dec. 29 and Dec. 30 didn’t stop Wellington, Fla. resident Jeremy Fairbairn, 8, from turning up the heat. Though tall for his age, the young driver only began karting just over a year ago and this year’s KartWeek at Daytona International Speedway was his first. Inexperience didn’t stop Fairbairn as he went on to dominate the weekend going P1 in every competitive on-track session.

As the 2013 racing season takes the green flag, both the annually contested Florida Winter Tour and premiere Ocala Gran Prix race team do as well. With round one taking place at the ultra fast Palm Beach International Raceway (PBIR) in Jupiter, Florida, Ocala Gran Prix (OGP) will head south with a strong team of nineteen drivers. With at least one competitor in every Rotax Max class, OGP will be looking to close the series in March with multiple race wins, podium results and championships.
