Traveling across the country from his California based shop to the second round of the World Karting Association (WKA) Manufacturers Cup program, Jesus Vasquez and P1 Engines would have another great weekend of results. Competing at the Carolina Motorsports Park in Kershaw, South Carolina, P1 Engines powered drivers would secure seven pole positions en route to four main event wins.
“We had a great showing in multiple different classes,” expressed P1 Engines Owner Jesus Vasquez. “Not only did we win in KPP and TaG, we had some really strong runs and podium results with Yamaha, Parilla and X30 engines. It was a great overall weekend.”
Patrick Olsen would continue his dominance in the Komet Pro division by sweeping Saturday’s on track action. Taking the pole position, prefinal win and main event victory, Olsen would add to his overall series point total. Looking to make Sunday a carbon copy, Olsen was involved in an incident that would take him out of the running for another win.
Fellow P1 Engines powered Komet Pro driver Jonathon Kotyk would be near the front of the field throughout the weekend and would set fast time during Sunday’s wheel-to-wheel competition and cross the line in the second position.
Garrett Johnston would get his first career WKA Manufacturers Cup senior victory on Sunday as he dominated the TaG Senior field by taking the pole position, prefinal win and commanding main event victory. Competing in a multitude of classes, Johnston would also set fast time in Sunday’s IAME Senior division with his P1 Engines prepared IAME X30.
Unbeatable in the TaG Masters ranks, Scott Ferris would put on another dominating performance. With two pole positions and two prefinal wins, Ferris did not put a wheel wrong all weekend and would top the blocks after the final checkered flag would fly on both event days. Utilizing a P1 Engines prepared Leopard, Ferris would also claim two fast lap awards over the two days of competition.
Gathering great points towards the end of the year championship chase, Calvin Stewart would claim a pair of second place results in the IAME Senior ranks. Powered by a Leopard motor, Stewart would go on to set fast time in Saturday’s IAME Senior main.
Jayden Larson had a great showing in the Yamaha Rookie class as he was in contention for the victory throughout the race weekend. Running inside the top five on Saturday, Larson would run into trouble in the main event and finish outside the top ten. Determined to better his result on Sunday, Larson would cross the line in fourth in the youngest division offered in the Manufacturers Cup program.
With the racing season now in full swing, there is no time off for P1 Engines as they will travel to the opening round of the Superkarts! USA Pro Tour this coming weekend. Taking place in Tucson, Arizona, P1 Engines will look to continue results from last year's TaG Junior, Senior and Masters Pro Tour championships.
