With multiple SuperKarts! USA (SKUSA) sanctioned ProKart regions in action this past weekend, P1 Engines powered drivers would score results across the nation. With race wins and podium results coming from the California, Rocky Mountain and Texas ProKart series, P1 Engines continued to show their engine building diversity throughout multiple classes and engine brands.
“I can’t be everywhere at once, so I really tried to support my customers by text, phone and e-mail throughout the weekend,” explained Jesus Vasquez of P1 Engines. “The hard work paid off as we were able to score solid results across the board.”
In the California ProKart Challenge region, Justice Lepe would impress all taking his first career TaG Junior victory. After qualifying on the outside of the front row and claiming first and third place finishes in his heat races, Lepe turned up the wick in the main event taking over the point and driving away to the victory. Fellow P1 Engines powered driver Nick Ramirez would run in the top-five throughout the day and narrowly missed a podium result crossing the line in fourth.
In the ultra competitive TaG Cadet division, P1 Engines powered Dante Yu would score the pole position in the morning qualifying session. Flawlessly driving his way through the heats, Yu would claim a pair of victories and the elusive pole position for the main event. Looking to score the perfect day, Yu would close the opening lap in the fifth position after a bad start relegated him down the running order. Determined to make his way through the field, Yu drove to the second position, one lap shy of being able to make a move for the race win.
Thomas Mejia also had a great run in the TaG Cadet class after his qualifying effort would see him classified in the fourth position. Running in the top-five all day, Mejia scored a third place result in the main event as well as fastest lap of the race honors.
TaG Masters pilot John Molinare added another podium for P1 Engines as he improved throughout the day to stand on the podium. Claiming sixth and fifth through the pair of heats, Molinare drove forward to finish the day P3.
Halfway across the United States, TaG Cadet pilot Luis Alfonso Perez Pena would see action in the Texas ProKart Challenge. Looking to carry the P1 Engines flag and add to the yearly podium total, Pena finished second in both Saturday and Sunday’s wheel-to-wheel action.
Payton Durrant was the man to beat in TaG Cadet at the Rocky Mountain ProKart Challenge as he went unchallenged on the weekend. Taking the checkers in both rounds one and two of the series, Durrant already has a stranglehold on the overall series title as he works through the 2013 racing season.
