In only his second season in the Legend Car ranks, rising talent and Ledson Motorsports team driver Nicholas Ledson claimed the 2013 Ontario Legends Championship. Scoring his maiden feature victory back in early June, Ledson went on to post strong results through the remaining events in his quest for the overall title.
“After Nicholas took his first win earlier in the season, we knew we could fight for the championship,” explained Nicholas’s father, Geordie Ledson of Ledson Motorsports. “To win the overall championship in only our second season in Legends racing is quite the accomplishment, and I’m very proud of Nicholas and the whole team.”
Taking his first ever victory in the 5/8-scale model car series during the 2013 Ontario Legends season opener May 18 at the Peterborough Speedway, Nicholas was able to challenge for the overall title right from the get-go. Falling back to finish the feature in ninth when the series headed to Barrie at the end of May, Ledson then battled back to claim back-to-back victories at the following two races in Peterborough, including a sweep of the June 22 event, where the 16-year-old also scored both heat wins.
The July 6 round saw Nicholas earn a second place podium result, missing out on the feature victory after placing first and second in the heats. With the next event on the schedule rained out, Nicholas would be back in action more than one month later for the series finale. Earning third and first place result in his two heats, Nicholas would unfortunately finish down the running order in 11th. Leading the first eight laps, younger brother Cole would blow an oil line and spill oil over the track. As Nicholas came around for his next lap, he was unable to avoid the spill and ended up in the wall. Despite posting his poorest result of the season, the Ledson Motorsports pilot had enough points to claim the 2013 Ontario Legends Championship title.
With Cole joining Nicholas in the series in 2013, the younger Ledson would take on his first action in the Legends ranks, posting one top-ten feature result as well as one top-five heat race finish. Having to sit out a round due to a broken ankle, Cole finished a respectable tenth in the overall points in his rookie season.
Nicholas would also recently travel to Delaware Speedway outside of London, Ontario to race the Legends western series, where the talent claimed both heat race wins as well as the feature victory. Also traveling to Erie, Pennsylvania to take in more Legends action in late August and early September, Ledson Motorsports is currently back in Pennsylvania for the National event this weekend.
