Traveling not far from their Indianapolis, Indiana headquarters to the New Castle Motorsports Park, Top Kart USA would stake their claim as the Maxxis "King of the Castle", part of the Pro Kart Tour Right Turn Edition, with team driver Jay Howard. Taking on unseasonably cold temperatures, as well as a shortened schedule due to an early spring snowstorm, Top Kart USA drivers would not only excel with the Pro TaG win, but also in several other categories as the team led the way at the one-mile sprint course.
With a $40,000 weekend cash purse on the line, Top Kart USA drivers came out in full force at the King of the Castle event. A looming snowstorm forecasted for the New Castle area on Sunday forced promoters and drivers into a one-day schedule, putting all classes on track Saturday in what was an action-packed day.
Taking in qualifying Saturday morning, eight Top Kart USA pilots would first take in the "trophy" race before the feature "money" races closed out the event. Three drivers would put Top Kart on top of the podiums, as Emerson Reed scored the trophy win in Yamaha Junior as did Zach Holden in Yamaha Sportsman. In Yamaha Senior, Patrick Olsen finished P1 with Blake Deister coming home in fifth. With four drivers contesting the headline Pro TaG category, Top Kart drivers would sweep the second through fifth places, as karting standout Mason Chelootz scored second place honors followed by Bill McLaughlin in third, IndyCar driver Jay Howard in fourth and Tommy Andersen fifth.
Starting the day's feature pro races based on their finish from the trophy races, Top Kart USA drivers continued to excel at the New Castle circuit. Again taking the win in the Yamaha Junior category, Reed would leave with a cool $2000 in cash. Holden staked his claim to the second place purse in the younger Yamaha Sportsman category and earn $400 cash in the process. Yamaha Senior competitor Olsen would podium in the feature pro race and take home $500, with Deister finishing sixth on the day.
With $10,000 on the line in Pro TaG, Howard would put Top Kart USA first in the headline class, taking top honors and a $5000 payday. Andersen would move up to finish fourth and claim $600 while Chelootz and McLaughlin would also earn cash with their sixth and seventh place results respectively.
"The Top Kart USA team is beyond impressed with the results of this weekend and has brought a strong presence through all of the competing classes," commented Top Kart USA's Bill McLaughlin Sr. "We also would like to give a special congratulations to all of our drivers supporting the Top Kart chassis brand."
Top Kart USA will now turn their focus to the second round of the 2013 WKA Manufacturer's Cup series, set for April 5-7 at the Carolina Motorsports Complex in Kershaw, South Carolina.
