With anticipation building for the first ever season of the Florida Pro Kart Series (FPKS), officials are pleased to announce the opening of online registration and the publication of the official event day schedule. With the first event taking place April 25-27 at the Homestead Karting facility on the grounds of the famed Homestead-Miami Speedway, registration as well as tire, pit pass and transponder orders are available beginning today via www.FloridaProKartSeries.com
“It was our goal to have registration for series events open early to allow teams and competitors time to get registered,” explained FPKS President Glenn Biggs. “It is a very busy time in the karting season, especially in the south, and we didn’t want to put a lot of pressure on people as the event neared and then have to charge late fees if not registered on time.”
With seven classes set for competition in the first ever Florida Pro Kart Series program, Biggs is also pleased to announce the race day schedule. With a focus on a lot of track time, the schedule will start earlier in the morning, but longer heat races and main events will highlight the program.
Biggs continued, “We are a series for the racers and we listen to our customers comments and concerns. We always hear people complaining about the lack of track time, the short practice sessions and the closed pits during qualifying so we have decided to change that and provide the competitors with what they want.”
While Friday practice sessions will be operated by the hosting track, the Florida Pro Kart Series will take over operations Saturday morning for their first of two official event days per weekend. Looking to increase track time for all competitors, official practice sessions will begin at 7:30am and run ten minutes in length. A short drivers meeting will then take place followed by the official qualifying sessions. With an open hot pit and ten minutes of track time, competitors and their tuners can bring strategy into play as they can use the track time as they wish and make necessary changes to find the elusive speed.
Prefinals for the TaG Micro, TaG Cadet and TaG Mini will be twelve laps in length while all other divisions will see fifteen lap heats that will set the grid for the day’s main events. Looking to put the driver and their machine to the challenge, the younger drivers of the series will see fifteen lap main events while TaG Junior, TaG Senior, TaG Masters and Shifters will endure a daunting twenty lap final.
“We wanted to bring the element of driver, kart and tuning into play as that is what is needed when competitors move from karts to cars,” added Biggs. “The Florida Pro Kart Series will be the best bang for the buck series and we invite everyone to come out and enjoy the experience.”
