After the launch of the BENIK Kart chassis back in December, drivers piloting the machine, designed by long time karting industry members Nick Mitchell and Ben Cruttenden, continue to be seen at the front of the pack. Tackling back-to-back-to-back weekends at the Orlando Kart Center in Orlando, Florida, BENIK Kart drivers were able to add fast lap honors and heat race wins to the growing list of achievements for the blue kart.
Starting off their three week stint at the Orlando circuit with team drivers Lachlan DeFrancesco and David Morales at the RoK Cup USA event, the BENIK Kart was again seen near the top of the time sheets. Both pilots would post top-ten results in qualifying in the racy Vortex Mini RoK class, with DeFrancesco narrowly missing the pole position with a third place effort. The younger of the DeFrancesco brothers went on to score a heat race win before posting fourth in the main event. Morales would continue a string of top-ten results through the heats and placed eighth overall in the final.
Back to the spectator-friendly facility the following week for the Formula Kart Productions Florida Winter Tour (FWT), DeFrancesco again proved the speed of the BENIK Kart. Clocking P1 in TaG Cadet qualifying for the Saturday round, Lachlan kept his streak alive of qualifying on the front row for the last four consecutive FWT races. Leading all of heat one only to crash on the last lap, which resulted in a broken hand, the young gun came back on Sunday and qualified second before engine woes took him out of contention in the final.
Morales also continued to make strides in his BENIK Kart. Qualifying tenth on Sunday in TaG Cadet, the Miami area pilot finished his day with a solid sixth place effort.
The following weekend would see Morales make the jump from the Micro Max ranks to the ultra-competitive Rotax Mini Max class during the finale weekend of the FWT. Qualifying 14th, and only four-tenths off pole time, the up-and-coming driver then placed tenth in the prefinal and 14th in the main during a very respectable Mini Max debut.
“Although a main event win eluded us during these three weeks, we still consider our results a success for the BENIK Kart,” noted Nick Mitchell, Co-Founder of BENIK Kart. “We also had a new driver, Ruben Grillet, join the team and David’s excellent debut in Mini Max shows the strides we continue to make as a team and chassis brand.”
