Kick starting their 2014 season, P1 Engines traveled to the ‘Sunshine State’ of Florida for several national and international events. With drivers utilizing P1 Engines power at the World Karting Association (WKA) Manufacturers Cup event in Daytona Beach, Florida as well as the opening round of the Formula Kart Productions Florida Winter Tour, P1 Engines was well represented on the podium.
In late December in northern Florida, Cal Stewart would put his P1 prepared X30 on the pole position for the Parilla Senior action on day one of the WKA Manufacturers Cup. An on track incident in the prefinal would see him fall to the 23rd position but a great run in the main event would allow Stewart to stand on the podium in the third position while setting the fastest lap of the event.
Back to the track for day two, Stewart would better his previous day’s result but this time in the TaG Senior category. Taking the pole position, prefinal win and main event victory, Stewart has quickly become one of the favorites for the overall series title. Stewart would add another podium result on the day as managed to claim the second position in the Parilla Senior class for a total of three podiums on the weekend.
P1 Engines powered drivers Emerson Reed and Abby McLaughlin would be at the front of the field in the X30 powered machines as they both challenged for podium results. Reed took the pole position, heat race win but would have to settle for second in the main event while McLaughlin battled hard and scored her best career national level finish with a solid fourth place effort.
Less than two weeks later, P1 Engines was front and center again at the start of the annual Formula Kart Productions Florida Winter Tour. Roman DeAngelis would utilize a P1 prepared X30 and claim the KoeneUSA.com pole award before coming home second in the first of two heats. An inverted field for heat two would see DeAngelis involved in an incident but the talented driver put it all on the line in the main event improving from his tenth place starting position to cross the line in third.
Sunday would start off similar for DeAngelis as he once again claimed the pole position. Contact in heat one would send him to the tail of the field and classified in the 25th position. An inverted field once again for heat two, DeAngelis had a solid drive forward to finish fifth. In the main event, Roman put on a great show coming from deep in the field to stand on the second step of the podium and take over the overall series point lead.
Before Daytona in mid-December, multi-time champion Tony Loniewski would travel to Hawaii to work for a P1 Engines customer. With the driver unable to compete do to a family emergency, Loniewski sprung into action and competed in the TaG Masters division. Showing his experience and speed, Loniewski took the race win and Hawaii State Championship.
“It was a great start to the 2014 season,” expressed Jesus Vasquez from P1 Engines. “We have shifted our focus a little to provide support for customers at different series and it is paying off. It is going to be another good year.”
