Heading to one of the prominent motor tracks in the United States, P1 Engines would have a small but mighty group of competitors compete in the final rounds of the United States Pro Kart Series (USPKS). Taking place at the long and fast New Castle Motorsports Park facility just outside Indianapolis, Indiana, P1 Engines would walk away with a pair of wins in the premier Leopard Pro division against a field of more than thirty stout competitors.
“It is great to see P1 Engines on the top of the podium on the East Coast,” explained Jesus Vasquez, Owner of P1 Engines. “It is a true testament of how well our engine program is not only in California, but across the country.”
Andrick Zeen with Praga North America and Tony Loniewski with Team Koene USA would see action in the Leopard Pro class with the latter of the two returning to the seat after a five year hiatus. Zeen would be the dominant driver in the main events taking the checkers in both Saturday and Sunday’s competition, but it wouldn’t come easy for the California resident. After a trouble filled qualifying session on Saturday that resulted in a 35th place starting spot for both heat races, Zeen would pass 24 karts in eight laps of heat one to finish 11th and then another 23 in heat two to finish 12th. With cumulative points setting the grid for the day’s main event, Zeen would begin his assault on the field from inside row five.
Cautiously working his way through the opening laps, Zeen took the lead on lap nine and never looked back. Drawing away from the field, the P1 Engines powered driver took a commanding victory. Sunday, Zeen would have a much better qualifying session claiming the ninth fastest time and after the heats, would progress another four spots forward to start the main event in fifth. Conserving his tires throughout the heats and some carburetion changes for the main event, Zeen once again used the P1 Engines supplied power to take the lead and draw away from the field claiming his second victory of the weekend.
Loniewski also showed speed throughout Saturday having been out of the kart for quite some time. An 11th place result in one of the heat races was promising for the veteran and former World Karting Association (WKA) Triple Crown Winner, but contact in the main event would cause him to retire from the race.
Alejandro Jaramillo would make his debut in the United States Pro Kart Series as he would enter only his second junior event since advancing from the Sportsman ranks. Getting used to the power of the Leopard engines as well as the MG Tires, Jaramillo continued to show constant improvement throughout the weekend. Utilizing a P1 Engines prepared Leopard Junior engine, the Team Koene USA driver finished ninth on Saturday and advanced two more positions up the order on Sunday to cross the line in seventh.
