P1 ENGINES WINS AT ROUND ONE OF CALIFORNIA PROKART CHALLENGE

The opening round of the SuperKarts USA! California ProKart Challenge kicked off at the Buttonwillow karting circuit, with P1 Engines claiming victory with Carlos Calderon in TaG Masters. The technical circuit proved challenging for all drivers as the grip started to build on Friday and then the conditions changed 180 degrees with rain all day Saturday.

In TaG Cadet, Tomas Mejia and Oliver Calvo were in contention for the race win. Mejia improved all weekend and capped on the Saturday race event with a second place finish. Calvo was among the fastest in the final, but a small mistake while passing for second spun him around and eventually DNF’d from the race. Jared Korth, Daniel Inzuna, Jace Gessel, and Aiden Kempf all had great runs, but the wet conditions got the best of them in the end.

Colby Dubato led the P1 Engines drivers in TaG Junior with a third place podium result. Also in the top-ten were Jonathan Shone in sixth, Dante Yu in eighth, and Gary Lyles in ninth. Justice Lepe was among the fastest all weekend, but a DNF in the final cost him a podium result.

TaG Senior saw P1 Engines with five drivers inside the top-ten. Stepanova Nekeel switched to a P1 X30 and saw an improvement throughout the day to be battling for the win in the final. He came up just short in second position. Mason Marotta was also at the front all weekend and finished third in the tricky conditions. Following him was Christian Brooks in sixth, Austin Elliott in seventh, and Matt England in ninth.

The lone ranger for P1 Engines in TaG Masters was Carlos Calderon and sometimes all you need is one to get the job done. That is exactly what Calderon did by staying out of trouble all day and taking home the win, a great way to start off the season for the veteran driver.
